Can I put my Longchamp Le Pliage in the washing machine? Putting it to the test!

I love Longchamp Le Pliage bags.

They're light, durable, quite big, and waterproof - basically the perfect bag for a student living in the city!

I have one in red and I've used it daily, as an everyday bag for uni, for well over a year, maybe even 2?!

I know this isn't a make-up or beauty related topic, but I know that the Longchamp Le Pliage is quite a popular handbag and I thought that this post might be helpful to some of you?!

Anyways, over the past year my Longchamp has gotten very dirty. There are loads of weird black marks and patches all over it - as if something spilled all over it?

For the past couple of months I've been contemplating whether to put it in the washing machine or not. I've been hesitant because the straps and finishings are cow hide leather and I don't want them to get ruined or fade.

When googling how to wash the Longchamp Le Pliage, I found this on a hand bag site:

LE PLIAGE:
* 100% polyamide canvas with PVC coating, cowhide leather trimmings.
* This canvas is waterproofed thanks to its PVC backing.

Care:
Remove any stains with soap and water and a cloth or brush on the canvas part. Do not wet the leather trims. Use a Longchamp colorless cream on leather trimmings.

But after doing a bit of research and googling, I read on various purse forums that some women have put theirs in the washing machine and it came out fine, so I decided to go for it!

I putting my washing machine settings to 'Wool' in delicates, 40° water temperate, and turned the dryer off. I used the same products I'd normally use when doing laundry - so there's no need for a special kind of detergent.

When it came out the washing machine it was soaking wet, so I let it air dry for a few hours before fully inspecting the results.

I hung it from the straps on a hanger and let it air dry like that. It probably took about 4 - 5 hours to fully dry up?

The results:

As you can see it looks as good as new - the leather trimmings and straps surprisingly came out fine and perfect!

Yay I'm so happy... I was worried it would come out all messed up but it was a success!!
My Longchamp now looks so clean new and smells so fresh!

So if anyone out there is worried about putting their Longchamp in the washing machine, worry no more! If you follow the directions I used, it should turn out fine!

Has anyone else ever put their Longchamp in the washing machine?
